Eyelid correction

An eyelid correction is a procedure that can be both medical and cosmetic. Who it is suitable for and what you can expect can be read here.

What is an eyelid correction?

An eyelid correction is a medical or cosmetic procedure in which the eye surgeon removes excess skin and fat from the eyelids. Excess skin is also called dermatochalazis. These drooping eyelids can give you a tired appearance.

How does an eyelid correction work?

1

Are you suitable?

After careful investigation, we first check whether you is eligible for an eyelid correction. If you are suitable, a surgery date will be scheduled with you. The surgery days are Thursday and Saturday.

2

You are being received

On the day of the procedure, you will be received by the doctor's assistant who will accompany you to the treatment room.

3

Marking out the operating area

The surgical area is marked out. This is the most important step of the procedure, because the better we can mark out the better the result.

4

The intervention

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and takes about 30 minutes. You will be awake during the procedure and the eye surgeon will (if you wish) tell you about the progress of the procedure.

5

Cooling mask

After the procedure, you can recover calmly and we will give you a cooling mask. This cooling will ensure that you recover as quickly as possible after the procedure. It is important that you cool well for the first 3 days. You will receive instructions for this from the doctor's assistant. Good and regular cooling is essential for a good recovery.

6

Stitches out

6 days after the procedure you will return to have the stitches removed. A clear difference is already visible, but the final result is visible after 6 months.

Symptoms that are consistent with drooping eyelids

Droopy eyelids can make you look older and can make applying makeup difficult. It can also cause the following symptoms:

  • Tired eyes/gaze;
  • Reduced field of vision;
  • Difficulty wearing glasses;
  • Reading complaints;
  • Headache complaints;
  • Watery eyes.

Old age and smoking are the biggest causes of drooping eyelids, but it can also be genetic (familial) or fit in with a physical condition. Furthermore, frequent exposure to UV radiation (sunbed) can cause sagging skin and excess skin.
