How does an eyelid correction work?
Common complaints of drooping eyelids
Droopy eyelids can make you look tired or older and make applying makeup difficult. They can also cause physical problems, such as:
- A tired feeling in the eyes or a heavy look;
- Limited vision due to skin hanging over the eyes;
- Problems wearing glasses;
- Difficulty reading;
- Tension headache;
- Excessively watery eyes.
Old age and smoking are the main causes of drooping eyelids, but it can also be genetic (inherited) or related to a physical condition. Furthermore, frequent exposure to UV radiation (tanning beds) can cause sagging and excess skin.
Want to know if you are suitable?
In 4 steps, you can find out if you're a good candidate for eyelid surgery. You don't have to drive all the way from Amsterdam to Zwolle to find out; you can simply take an online suitability test from the comfort of your own home.

Reimbursement for eyelid surgery doesn't depend on your health insurer, but on the type of procedure and the severity of your symptoms. Upper eyelid surgery is usually considered cosmetic and therefore not covered. It is only covered in exceptional circumstances.
However, a lower eyelid correction in which the eyelid turns inward or outward is reimbursed by basic insurance.

Every medical procedure carries potential risks, and eyelid surgery is no exception. At Looks Clinics in Zwolle, a specialized team works with the utmost care, minimizing the risk of complications. However, some symptoms, such as dry or watery eyes, may occur. These are usually temporary. During your free consultation, we will discuss all potential risks with you.
An eyelid correction generally produces long-lasting results by removing excess skin and fat. In most cases, a single treatment is sufficient. After about ten years, the skin may show signs of aging again, which in rare cases may necessitate a second procedure.
No, you don't need to be put under general anesthesia. The treatment is performed with a local anesthetic around the eyes. This means you'll be feeling better quickly after the procedure and won't experience any side effects like nausea. You also don't need to fast before the treatment.
Pain perception varies from person to person, but most patients report the procedure is virtually painless. The anesthesia itself may feel a little uncomfortable, but rarely causes any discomfort. After the procedure, you may experience mild pain similar to that of a graze. If needed, you can take paracetamol, although this is usually not necessary.
The procedure takes between 30 and 45 minutes.
Rest is essential for a successful recovery. We recommend avoiding strenuous activities for the first 24 hours. Most people take about a week off. The stitches are removed after 6 to 7 days. The scars will fade over the following months and will eventually become virtually invisible.
