General questions about our treatments. If you can't find the answer to your questions on this page, you can always send an email to info@looksclinics.nl.
Whether your eyelid correction is reimbursed by your insurer does not depend on your insurer, but on the type of treatment and the extent to which you suffer from it. However, an upper eyelid correction is a cosmetic procedure and is not reimbursed. There are exceptions, but this is rare.
A lower eyelid correction (where the eyelid turns inward or outward) is considered basic care and is therefore will be reimbursed.
Because we are a non-contracted healthcare provider, we do not invoice the care for you to the health insurer. In principle, you must pay for the care provided immediately after your appointment by means of a PIN payment at the counter, unless other arrangements have been made with you. You therefore first pay for the treatment yourself. You can then submit the invoice that you receive from us to your health insurer. What you get back from your health insurer depends on your insurance conditions.
Whether there are risks with an eyelid correction depends on many factors. In our focus clinic in Zwolle we work extremely precisely, we are specialists. However, every procedure can involve risks. With the upper eyelid correction the chance that you will get complications is small, but it is not impossible. For example, you may suffer from dry or watery eyes. These complaints are generally only temporary. During the no-obligation consultation (prior to the operation) the risks will be discussed with you.
Whether the result of an eyelid correction remains visible for a long time partly depends on the recovery process, but because we remove the excess skin and fat above or below your eyelids with an eyelid correction, this normally has a long-lasting effect. In general, an eyelid correction is therefore a one-off. It can happen that the skin is so aged after about 10 years that the drooping eyelids return, in which case a second treatment is possible. However, this does not happen often.
It is best not to wear lenses after an eyelid correction in the first week. Be careful not to pull hard on your eyelids to put the lenses in and out in the first month after treatment, this can slow down the healing process.
We like our patients to come for a check-up after the operation. You will be called by one of our assistants after three days to ask how the first days after the operation went. 6 days after the operation you will come back to our clinic to remove the stitches, then we will also assess the wound. However, the final result can only be admired after 6 months.
To determine whether an eyelid correction is suitable for you, an free consultation place. This can be done physically in our clinic or online. The eye surgeon will perform a facial analysis to see if you are suitable for an eyelid correction. You will also receive all the information about the eyelid correction, the risks and the costs. This way you know in advance what to expect. You can also look online whether you are suitable.
In most cases, you can go home half an hour after the operation, provided you feel well. Make sure that someone takes you home, because you are not allowed to drive or cycle yourself. Public transport may be possible. In that case, you can take sunglasses with you, so that the wound is also well protected from sunlight.
The symptoms associated with drooping eyelids vary from person to person, but in general these are the most common symptoms:

No, our eye surgeon works with local anesthesia. This means that only the area around your eyes is anesthetized during the treatment. This allows you to go home quickly after the treatment and you will not experience nausea as a result of the anesthesia. You also do not have to fast before the treatment.
After the correction of your upper eyelids, the area around your eyes will be swollen and sometimes there will be visible bruising. There may also be pockets of fluid under your lower eyelids. We will secure the stitches with plasters. You should leave these in place until you return to our clinic to have the stitches removed.
Whether an eyelid correction is painful varies from person to person, but in general we hear from our patients that it was virtually painless. The local anesthesia that you receive can be experienced as unpleasant, but again we hear few to no complaints about this. After the upper eyelid correction you may suffer from slight after-pain that resembles the feeling of a graze. Paracetamol is generally not necessary, but you can take it to relieve the complaint.
The procedure takes 30-45 minutes.
At Looks Clinics, you pay only €1,450 for an upper eyelid correction for both eyes. For a lower eyelid correction, you pay only €1,599 for both eyes. The price you pay includes the aftercare and check-ups that go with it. So you know in advance exactly what the costs of an eyelid correction are. You can also choose to do the upper and lower eyelids at the same time for a reduced rate of €2,595.

Three days after the treatment you can start doing administrative work again. If you do physical labor or work in healthcare or hospitality, we advise you not to work for the first week. For example, you may not bend over or lift heavy objects, because that will put too much pressure on the stitches. This will result in delayed healing.

Sports after an eyelid correction is possible after about one week after the treatment. You will probably feel this yourself. Intensive sports are possible after about two weeks. Please note that starting sports too early can also have a negative effect on the recovery process. Swimming is allowed again after the stitches have been removed.
After 6 to 7 days the stitches can be removed, this happens during the follow-up check at our clinic. This is included in the costs.
Yes! Post-operative cooling is a very important part of a good recovery. During the first three days the swelling will increase and with frequent cooling you can slow down this process.
It is important to get enough rest to allow the wound to heal. We recommend that you do not do any work for the first 24 hours. Most people take a week off after the procedure. 6-7 days after the procedure, you will come to the clinic to have the stitches removed. A few months after the procedure, the scars will be almost invisible.
We advise against wearing make-up during the first week. You can start wearing make-up again after the first week.
We advise you not to shower for 24 hours after the operation. You may shower again after that, but we advise you to keep the wound dry. If it does get wet, you may pat the wound dry. We also advise you not to shower too long or too hot because of the water vapour.
We advise against driving after an eyelid correction, which is why we also indicate during the consultation that you bring someone with you during the treatment. The eyelids are swollen after the procedure and this affects your vision.

The surgeon operates in such a way that the scar falls into the skin fold after the procedure. This makes the scar minimally visible.
