An upper eyelid correction is performed under local anesthesia, takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes, and is carried out at Looks Clinics by one of our specialized doctors.
The consultation
You can call the clinic or schedule an appointment online via looksclinics.nl for a free, no-obligation consultation. During the consultation, we will discuss your wishes and the possibilities with you, and the doctor will assess whether you are suitable for an upper eyelid correction. You will receive information about the surgery, and there will be ample time for questions. The consultation lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes. You will also receive a bag containing information about the surgery. There is a minimum of one week's reflection period between the consultation and the procedure.
The day of the procedure
On the agreed date, you will be welcomed by the doctor's assistant. There will be time for a cup of coffee or tea, and you can let us know your musical preferences for during the operation. Before the operation, we ask you to fill out the consent form.
The anesthetic
The assistant will escort you to the treatment room. The doctor will first carefully mark the surgical area. Next, your eyelids will be locally anesthetized. Administering the anesthetic may be slightly sensitive; once the anesthetic has taken effect, you will usually only feel some pressure. You will be awake during the procedure, and the doctor will explain what is happening, if you wish.
The procedure
The doctor removes the excess skin. The incisions are made so that the scar lies largely within the natural eyelid crease and is usually barely noticeable after healing. The wound is sutured. We secure the sutures with adhesive tape; please leave these in place until the stitches are removed at our clinic.
Cooling down and recovering
After the operation, you will receive a cooling mask to allow you to rest quietly for another fifteen minutes. The doctor will perform a final check, and the assistant will explain what is best to do during the first few days. Cooling is important for the first three days to limit swelling. Additionally, you will find instructions for each day of recovery in our recovery app.
Home
In most cases, you can go home about half an hour after the operation, provided you feel well. Make sure someone takes you home: you are not allowed to drive or cycle yourself. You can resume administrative work three days after the procedure. If you perform physical work or work in healthcare or the hospitality industry, we advise you not to work for the first week. Paracetamol is usually not necessary, but you may take it if you wish.
Call time on day 3
On the third day after the procedure, an assistant will call you to see how you are doing. If you have any questions in the meantime, you can always call us.
Remove stitches on day 6
Six days after the procedure, you will return to have the stitches removed. The assistant will remove the stitches, assess the wound, and advise you on care. During this appointment, you will receive a tube of scar cream from us to support scar healing. Often, a difference is already visible by then; the final result will be visible after approximately six months. If you would like to visit us again in the meantime, that is, of course, no problem at all.
