How does an eyelid correction work?

1

Assessment of your suitability

Before proceeding with treatment, we first carefully assess whether you are a candidate for eyelid correction. If so, we will schedule the procedure in consultation with you. There is always a minimum of one week's cooling-off period between the consultation and the procedure.

2

Personal reception on the day of the procedure

On the day of your procedure, you will receive a warm welcome from our assistant. She will escort you to the treatment room and ensure you feel comfortable during the preparations.

3

Marking the treatment area

Before the procedure starts, the doctor marks the area to be treated. This step is of great importance: the more precise the marking, the better the result can be tailored to your wishes.

4

The eyelid correction

The eyelid correction is performed under local anaesthesia and takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes. You will be awake during the treatment. If you prefer, the doctor will keep you informed of every step.

5

Recovery with cooling

After the procedure, you will receive a cooling mask to reduce swelling and support the healing process. Regular cooling is important during the first three days. You will receive clear instructions regarding this from our assistant. Consistent cooling helps limit swelling and supports recovery. Three days after the procedure, an assistant will call you to ask how you are doing.

6

Removing the stitches

You return six days after the treatment to have the stitches removed. Often, a difference is already visible by then; the final result is visible after approximately six months.

Common symptoms of drooping eyelids

Drooping eyelids can give your face a tired or older look and make applying make-up difficult. They can also cause physical problems, such as:

  • A heavy or tired feeling around the eyes
  • Reduced vision because skin hangs over the eyelids
  • Discomfort when wearing glasses
  • Difficulty reading
  • Tension headache
  • Excessively watery eyes

The main causes are ageing and hereditary predisposition. Smoking and excessive exposure to UV radiation, for example from tanning beds, can accelerate skin sagging. Sometimes a physical condition plays a role.

Are you a suitable candidate?

In four simple steps, you can discover whether eyelid correction is right for you. You do not need to come to the clinic for this. Simply complete our online suitability check at home.

Frequently asked questions about eyelid correction

Do you have a question? We've answered the most frequently asked questions for you below. For more information, please feel free to contact us or view all our frequently asked questions.

At Looks Clinics, you pay € 1,750 for an upper eyelid correction (both eyes). This rate includes all pre- and post-operative care, suture removal, a cooling mask, and scar cream. The introductory consultation is free of charge and without obligation. A lower eyelid correction costs € 1,750, and the combination of upper and lower eyelid correction costs € 3,500.

Whether treatment is reimbursed depends less on your insurer than on the type of procedure and the severity of your symptoms.

  • A upper eyelid correction is generally considered a cosmetic procedure and therefore usually excluded from coverage. Exceptions are made only in cases of serious, medically demonstrable limitations; your health insurer assesses this.

Looks Clinics is a non-contracted healthcare providerYou pay for the treatment yourself (by debit card) and will receive an invoice, which you can submit to your insurer if necessary. The amount of reimbursement depends on your policy terms.

Every medical procedure carries potential risks, and this also applies to eyelid correction. Our specialised team works with great precision; the chance of complications is small, but it cannot be ruled out. Temporary symptoms may occur, such as swelling, a pulling sensation, dry eyes, or eyes that tear up more easily. Rare complications include post-operative bleeding, infection, slight asymmetry, or a more noticeable scar. During a no-obligation consultation, we will discuss all risks with you in detail.

Because excess skin and fat are removed during the treatment, one treatment is often sufficient. The result typically lasts for many years; however, natural skin ageing continues. If the skin sags again over time, a second treatment can be considered in consultation.

No. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia around the eyes. This means you recover quickly from the anaesthetic, without side effects such as nausea, and you do not need to fast beforehand.

Most clients find the eyelid correction well tolerated. The anaesthetic injection may be briefly uncomfortable, but this passes quickly. After the procedure, you may experience a burning sensation, similar to a graze. Paracetamol is usually not necessary, but you may take it if you wish.

The treatment itself takes about 30 to 45 minutes.

Rest is important for a good recovery. We advise avoiding strenuous activity, bending over and heavy lifting during the first week after the procedure. You can resume administrative work three days after the procedure; if you perform physical work or work in healthcare or the hospitality industry, we advise you not to work during the first week. We will remove the stitches six days after the procedure. The scars fade in the following months and generally become less and less visible.
